Loaded Cheese Fries

It’s time to get your hand messy with these cheese fries loaded with lots of cheese off course and then topped with crispy bacon, pickled jalapeno, green onion, and sour cream. Super easy to make and a real crowd pleasure.

What’s better than a big pile of hot crispy french fries? – Cheese fries, even better when it is loaded with yummy toppings. You will see how easy it is to transform a bag of frozen fries into a showstopper appetizer, that you can’t stop binging on. Crispy fries topped with cheese then baked until its gooey, then topped with crispy bacon, chopped jalapeno, green onion, and sour cream. But there is so much you can do with topping and keep it interesting.

Before I get into the details, let me tell you why this recipe is a keeper. While trying the recipe I realized despite all the cheese and toppings, the fries still felt a little under-seasoned. And a super quick french fry seasoning cuts the deal. This seasoning adds so much more flavor than just plain salt.

Ingredients For Cheese Fries

  • Frozen French fries – Look for thick-cut fries as they hold well all the toppings. I love these crinkle-cut fries
  • Cheese- I have used a blend of Cheddar and mozzarella as they both are stretchy cheese. You can also add some processed American cheese like Velveeta as it melts well.
  • Seasoning – A delicious blend of garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, paprika, and salt to season the french fries.
  • Chopped crispy bacon
  • Pickled Jalapenos – Drained and chopped
  • Green Onion

4 Easy Steps To Make

  • Cook Frozen fries – You can fry, bake, or air fry. I am always pro airfryer. It does the work well.
  • Season Fries – Once the fries are done, Spread them on a baking tray. Spray some oil and add half of the seasoning mix. Oil helps the seasoning to stick. Also, it’s important to do this step while the fires are still hot.
  • Layer it with cheese – Sprinkle cheese all over the fries. Broil it for 1-2 minutes until the cheese has melted.
  • Add Toppings – Top it with crispy bacon, chopped pickled jalapeno, green onion, and drizzle sour cream.

Add Your Favorite Toppings

The toppings are not limited to this. You have so many options.

  • Play around with different toppings, you can add diced avocado, olives, fresh jalapenos, guacamole, drizzle of hot sauce etc.
  • Serve with a delicious dipping sauce like tomato salsa, BBQ Sauce, Ranch Dressing, BBQ Sauce.
  • Load it with protein and you are ready to savor your favorite bar snack at the comfort of your home. Pulled pork, steak, or shredded Mexican chicken works. Make sure there is not too much sauce and once added to the fries it needs to be consumed immediately.

Cheese Fries FAQs

Can we make it ahead?

It is partially yes and no. Yes, because you can keep the toppings ready. And cook the fries and add toppings just before serving them. These are best to be enjoyed hot and fresh.

How to store leftovers?

Only if there are any.. ha ha!! Fries will lose their crispiness over time, hence even if you can store the leftovers they won’t taste the same.

  • Quick 3 ingredients Cheese Sauce – Take 3/4 cup shredded cheese toss with 1 teaspoon cornstarch. Cheese should be coated well with the starch. Heat 1/2 cup of heavy cream in a small saucepan, add the above cheese and switch off the flame. Cover and let the cheese soften for 2 minutes. Remove lid, give it a good whisk, and cook for one minute on low heat.
